These are counts of work completed, not projections. We have deliberately left out download totals, page views, and audience figures until we have a full reporting period to report honestly.

What happened, in order
FORMATION
Incorporated as a Nevada nonprofit corporation
The Foundation was organized under Nevada law for exclusively educational purposes, with a charitable purpose limited to creating and freely distributing educational material on the operation and management of law practices.
RECOGNITION
Recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization
EIN 42-2464496. Contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Our determination letter is available to any donor, partner, or grantmaker on request.
FIRST PROGRAM
The SOP Starter Library published
Eight procedures covering intake, billing, collections, client communication, mail handling, discovery, case closing, and injury file setup, plus a development guide and worksheet. All ten documents are readable in full on the site. Open the library.
MENTORSHIP
Free one-to-one mentorship opened to every qualifying applicant
Four mentor tracks — firm ownership, operations, finance, and marketing — staffed by volunteers who agree in writing not to sell anything to the people they mentor. Applications are read by a person and matched on the problem. Program details and rules.
OUTREACH
Material opened for free reuse by schools and bar organizations
Law schools, clinics, career offices, bar associations, incubators, and legal aid organizations may reproduce and distribute our material for their members at no cost and without seeking permission.
Accountability
How we intend to be judged
Educational nonprofits are easy to grade generously, because the output is words. These are the measures we are committing to publish, including the ones that are unflattering when the number is small.
Documents published and revised
Counted per year, with revisions listed separately. A library that never changes is a library nobody is using.
Mentor pairings made and sustained
How many attorneys and students were matched, how many pairings were still meeting six months later, and how many volunteer mentors we have. Reported for full periods only.
Institutions distributing our work
Law schools, bar groups, and legal aid organizations that put the material in front of their members, named with their permission.
What practitioners tell us
Whether a firm adopted a procedure and what happened next, in their words, published with attribution when they allow it.
Cost per document published
What it takes to research, write, review, and host one procedure. It is the clearest way for a donor to see what a contribution buys.
Share of material behind any barrier
The target is zero and we expect to be held to it. If any resource ever requires payment, this page will say so.
Governance and funding
Where the money comes from
The Foundation is small and its finances are simple. We would rather state that plainly than imply an institution larger than the one that exists.
Our costs are research and writing time, practitioner review, editing, and website hosting. We do not maintain offices, we do not employ fundraising staff, and we do not spend on advertising our own brand.
We are funded by charitable contributions and by in-kind donations of professional time from attorneys and legal staff who review our material before publication. We accept no payment from software vendors or service providers in exchange for coverage, and we participate in no affiliate or referral programs.
As a recognized 501(c)(3) organization we file the annual returns required of us, and our determination letter is available on request to any donor, partner, or grantmaking institution. Anyone with a question about our funding or governance can write to us directly and we will answer it.
